Meditations on 10 Yoga Teacher Qualities

5 min read

To me, teaching yoga has always been so much more than a job. Bringing health, joy, and renewal to people has become who I really am and is no longer a means to an end but the end itself.

This mindset shift, which I observe in the developing yogi entrepreneurs, marks the beginning of a battle-ready yoga instructor.

Ten inner qualities of successful yoga teachers

Over the past ten years, teaching yoga has transformed my identity and life. Ten inner qualities have made me and my students successful and life-changing teachers of yoga from the inside out.

These are not tips on how to teach yoga classes. They are qualities of a yoga teacher that we should strive for.

Mindfulness

Limit your attention to the moment. You will be able, by not focusing on what-ifs or had-I’s, to dedicate all your passion, talent, and compassion to your student and make a real difference.

Your simple joys, passions, and productivity will replace the mental impact of the challenges and stress associated with running a small business.

Be A Wise Mediator

Yoga is not only for the physical but also for a harmonious mental state with others and ourselves. Your students will ask you for more than physical advice. They want to know how to achieve this harmony.

If you become a guru in relationships, career challenges, and depression, you’ll shine as an example of wellness for your students.

How to Become a Medical Expert

Body wellness practices will give you great energy support in the long term and bring a refreshing joy to the most difficult gigs.

You will become a representative and advisor of their overall health, not just yoga. Eat right, do the right thing, have a good posture, and sleep well.

Authenticity and originality are the hallmarks of a true Yogi

Yoga is not a one-size-fits-all experience. It touches us deeply, in a profound way, and incredibly intimate ways. It is important to work towards a unique transformation and not worry about copying or matching the qualities of other yoga teachers.

You can certainly borrow ideas from other teachers. However, they must be true to your personality as a yogi and a yoga teacher. Understanding authenticity will not only help you attract trainees with your creativity and originality but also allow you to assist them at their level.

Consider Thinking Outside the Box

Perspective is essential for anyone who wants to grow their business or make major life changes. It’s not enough to wing it from day to day without taking a step back to see creative opportunities or make larger plans.

Think like a humanitarian with a mission and develop innovative strategies and plans to meet your goals. What will reach the most people? How can I increase the number of students that I can assist, and how can I make my impact more profound? How will I manage the finances and workforce to achieve the goals for the year?

Discipline, Organization, and Organisation

Here is where your breathwork will really pay off. It’s a tall order to change people’s lives and get paid at the same time. You can easily fall into the trap of “What is my next yoga teacher lifestyle teaching gig?” and do little else in between, thereby limiting your growth potential.

You’re tired and want to let yourself go at the end. If you want to be able to grow, you’ll need focus, the right breathing techniques, structure, and discipline.

It would be best if you dedicated a specific time every day to plan and focus your business. Do you have a habit of doing due diligence, writing business plans, following up on actions, and completing them? Focus, om, and breathe.

Make Yoga Your Life

Do not think of yoga as something you must do at dawn. Remember that when you prepare to teach or do yogic work, you are becoming your true self. Enjoy every moment like it’s your last.

When you are not teaching yoga, try to keep the philosophy, practices, and bliss of yoga in your mind. This will avoid burnout and allow you to teach your students how yoga can become a part of their daily lives.

Be Happy

Isn’t this one obvious? It’s not always easy. It’s here to keep it on your radar so that you always see it. This is the goal of the yogic way, where you will guide your students one day. Through yoga, cultivate this light, and you will have a constant source of inspiration during your darkest business hours.

Empathy is a Work in Progress

Yoga is much more than a simple life skill. It is a form of care and healing. You can connect with people in many ways, including through humor, emotional support, and physical support. Happiness is a result of your genuine friendship, affection, and willingness to help.

Learn the 8 Limbs of Yoga

You’ll be focusing on the physical aspect of yoga and its asanas, but you are also a spiritual teacher. You’ll eventually need to connect the joy of mind, body, and spirit. The physical aspect of yoga ( Asana ) will not be enough.

You can achieve a life of radiance and help others to do the same by mastering these eight limbs.
